How the the Apostles Die? By Dr. Jay Quine
It is uncertain what happened to Matthew. He ministered in Palestine, Ethiopia, Macedonia, and in the Euphrates Persian area. Some accounts say he died a natural death, whereas others say he was executed in Persia.
After many years of ministry Peter was crucified in Rome in 67 A.D.
Andrew was likely forced to leave Jerusalem and ministered in Galatia, and then the coast of the Black Sea. He passed into obscurity.
The Apostle James was beheaded by King Herod Agrippa in A.D. 44.
John fled Jerusalem to Ephesus, but he was arrested there and finally exiled and died alone on the Island of Patmos.
Philip, was also forced to leave Jerusalem. It is unclear what happened to him. Some tradition asserts he was murdered, others say he died in obscurity.
Judas, not Judas Iscariot, together with Simon the Zealot, were executed in Persia.
Bartholomew was executed while ministering in Armenia.
Thomas became a missionary to India. No one knows exactly what happened to him.
The record for others in addition to the disciples is equally compelling.
There is strong historical tradition that Barnabas went back to his homeland of Cyprus, and continued to preach the word. But on that Island a group who opposed him killed him.
After leaving his ministry in Corinth under turmoil, the great preacher Apollos couldn’t be compelled to return even by Paul (1 Cor 16). For some reason some of the Corinthians strongly objected to his preaching and divided the church over it.
For his preaching Paul was ridiculed, laughed at, beaten, stoned, left for dead. He was ultimately arrested not once but twice and finally beheaded in the capital city of Rome.
Jesus said: “Blessed are the persecuted on account of me, for your reward in heaven is great.”

Jay Quine: Remember the Word "Alive"
We planted a few rows of snow peas, and beans in our flower bed. The wrinkly dry seeds looked completely dead. But with a little water, the nutrients of the soil, and the warmth of the sun, we know they will spring to life. The Bible uses this word “alive” to describe those who may not look like much, but are full of life in Christ. With the watering of the Word, the nutrient of doctrine for your soul, and the invigorating power of the Son and Spirit of God, we will spring to life. Dr. Jay Quine here to remind you of this word. You are alive. Present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. Who knows what harvest you will brings as the Lord will uses you in newness of life.

Dr. Jay Quine: 2nd Peter and the Truth of God
Written by Peter A.D. 68 - 69
If 1 Peter 5:13 cryptically refers to Rome, then it is likely Peter wrote this second epistle shortly before his death, which tradition sets at late A.D. 68 or early 69. He wrote to challenge Christians to spiritual growth through knowledge of the truth so that they can ward off apostasy as they look for the Lord’s return.
Chapter 1:1-21 True Knowledge
Peter mentions the readers’ “true knowledge of God” to encourage and challenge them to live for the Lord and practice moral excellence, self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness, and love rather than stumble in a lifestyle of sinful corruption. They can live by the truth knowing that the Lord will imminently return.
Chapter 2:1-22 False Teaching
The greatness of the word of God and knowledge of the truth is contrasted with the teaching and method of false prophets. Because they sow divisive heresy, deny the Lord as Master, follow sensuality, malign the truth, and exploit the sheep, Peter notes that they will be judged. He then warns his readers to stay away from these individuals.
Chapter 3:1-18 Expectant Living
After addressing the reality of being mocked by the world for living in expectation of Christ’s return, Peter affirms the certain truth of the second advent and the day of resurrection. The passage of time until then is really a time of God’s grace to allow others opportunity to turn toward God. Until that day believers are to be diligent in living a life of peace and practical holiness before the Lord.
Quine's Key Verse Suggestion: 2 Peter 1:5-8
“Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness; and in your godliness, brotherly kindness and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
